Traveling alone is a great way to relax and explore the world but you also have to remember that just because you are on vacation or studying abroad, it doesn't mean nothing bad could happen. You have to remember to always be aware of your surroundings and use common sense!
Don't think that during the day nothing bad happens and that only at night you may be vulnerable to an unwanted situation. For example, yesterday at around 4pm I was on my way from school to my home and a guy started following me. I was distracted by my phone but I noticed someone walking fairly close behind me. I thought, "maybe I am walking too slow and he's just trying to pass by." I decided to move out of the way but then he was standing right next to me, asking where I was going! I continued walking and told him I was going to a friend's house and that I didn't really want to speak. When I noticed that didn't work and that he was being pretty persistent, I decided to catch up to a random woman walking a few feet in front of me. As I picked up speed, he reached out to try and grab me but at that point I was in front of the woman and he quickly walked back the opposite way, back to where the tram station was. Nothing bad happened to me, luckily, but it was definitely an uncomfortable situation. This sort of thing has happened to me before in my home town, walking late at night from my job to my car. These situations can happen any where in the world, at any time, and to any one! A few tips I think people should follow to avoid these situations are:
Tips to follow if you find yourself in a similar situation:
I know a lot of these are common sense but sometimes we forget what to do and it's better to do any thing rather than do nothing at all. Staying safe is always important!!!
